I don't play genres. I play the room, and I bring the whole record collection with me.
My ear was built on soul and hip-hop, sharpened on house, and finished by twenty years of reading crowds that don't all want the same thing. So I stopped choosing. A night with me moves: a Philly soul break into a deep house bassline, an underground hip-hop loop under something that came out last week.
Taste is the discipline. I'd rather leave three obvious records in the bag than spend a moment of your night on autopilot. And when the moment calls for something that doesn't exist yet, I compose it live, with edits, layers, and reworks built for that specific room, that specific hour.
